During the course of my work I've earned a couple of dozen company
awards, first as a developer, then as a manager.
By the top of my consulting career, I pointed to a small pile of mostly glad clients and different evidence that I might
do the work, sketched out a "Here’s how I plan to create a pair million dollars of value for your company" in proposals, after which
simply introduced my rate. I mixed a modest
quantity of programming ability (typically Rails, Ruby, and Javascript) with substantial experience with using engineering skills to move advertising/gross
sales levers, including by doing Seo, e mail
advertising and marketing, A/B testing, (gentle) UX design (sometimes around high-worth elements of a
SaaS enterprise like signup flows or purchasing pathways), etc.
I turned down basically any gig which was strictly engineering in character and reasonably aggressively
went after greater tasks which were "closer to the money" every
couple of months.
